Job-A-Palooza event such a hit 2 years ago, they are rolling it out again in Gardens, Riviera Beach

Palm Beach Post - 2/18/2020

PALM BEACH GARDENS - The Arc of Palm Beach County's first Job-A-Palooza event for students with disabilities was a huge success, drawing dozens of businesses to four Palm Beach State College campuses in 2018.

The nonprofit organization's second event is expected to be even bigger.

Seventy-five job applicants, 50 volunteers and 15 businesses are expected to participate in upcoming Job-A-Palooza events in Palm Beach Gardens and Riviera Beach.

The first event will be held Friday, Feb. 28 from 5:30-9 p.m. in Nordstrom Court at The Gardens Mall. The second is Saturday, March 14 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Arc of Palm Beach County, 1201 Australian Ave., Riviera Beach.

The events are designed to give young people with disabilities the opportunity to learn about possible careers and meet potential employers.

Job-A-Palooza encourages a diverse and inclusive workforce, said Kimberly McCarten, CEO and president of The Arc of Palm Beach County.

The job fairs are open to applicants ages 14 to 21.

"This event focuses on possibilities, not an applicant's disabilities," McCarten said. "We know there are businesses that have job openings. We also have young people who are eager to work, earn a paycheck, and exercise their independence. This event brings them together."

Chick-fil-A, Drive Shack, Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa, Floral Elegance, Intech, Jupiter Bounce, Kendra Scott, LaBovick Law Group, Loggerhead Marinelife Center, Publix, The Breakers, The Gardens Mall, and Sisca Construction have committed to the event, The Arc said.

Volunteers will assist job seekers as they visit each company.

Job-A-Palooza is a collaborative with The Arc of Florida and Vocational Rehabilitation.

The Arc of Palm Beach County also helps bring employers and applicants together through its Employment Services Program, which provides job training, placement, and coaching to help people with developmental disabilities enter the workforce.
